Each January, I go to this section of tilden park to take photos and collect giant nettles, which, which dapple these hills. Not this January...for the past four years I have visited this location in the new year. This photo was taken after one of the driest years on record in California. Usually the land would be covered with milk thistle sprouts and little grasses and wild mustard. this year it was brown.
