on valentinez day, 2013, i hiked around in the sonora desert, collected a few seeds from creosote and barrel cactus. at dusk we went to the korean market and bought a jackfruit the size of a basketball and gummy bears. the folks i was hanging out with were paleo and hadn't eaten simple sugars in a month. they were bouncing off the walls that night.

Jackfruit tastes like gummy bears and the seeds can  be boiled and eaten.

we started our adventure in february, headed to southern california. i began collecting seeds every day. zoe gave us a lift to L.A. after a week of failed attempts catching out of west oakland. in L.A. we ate fried chicken, visited old friends, saw a necklace that was prayer beads with a tape cassette hanging from it. we slept in the redwoods in santa cruz and by the beach in malibu.
